Rapelling at Laiban Dam

I received an invitation from a friend to join YabagMC one weekend and try rappelling at Laiban Dam. Being an adrenaline junkie me, I accepted the invitation without second thought. It was my first rappelling experience... and I'll do it again.

What is rappelling?

Abseiling (German: abseilen, "to rope down"), rappelling in American English, is the controlled descent down a rope; climbers use this technique when a cliff or slope is too steep and/or dangerous to descend without protection. Abseiling is used chiefly in British English, as well as in Ireland, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. For this one, I only spent Php800.00 - all in! Yabag Mountaineering Club; a group of mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts usually do rappelling and it’s open for everybody.

From Edsa Shaw the group rented a jeepney to Tanay Rizal. It was almost a 3-hour trip. At the location the only water source is raindrops running though a small plastic tube, no washrooms nor mobile network signal available. There’s also no electricity. Make sure to bring repellant for mosquitoes and insects.

Special thanks to Yabag MC, Tin Verdera and Dyan Esparaguera for the photos
