Blood Compact Site in Bohol

the historical cast
Amongst the tourist spots in Bohol, this site is the one widely engraved in Philippine history. The Blood Compact Site in Tagbilaran City (roughly 20 minutes away from Tagbilaran Port) is an edifice that was built to memorialize the brotherhood and friendship that transpired between Rajah Sikatuna (Bohol’s native chieftain) and Miguel Lopez de Legaspi (Spanish explorer and conquistador).

This place is a landmark of where the “Sandugo” (One Blood) took place; a blood compact between Sikatuna and Legaspi that happened 16th of March 1565. Based on the Philippine history Legaspi and Sikatuna cut their arms and had their blood mixed in a cup of wine. The wine then was drunk by both leaders to become blood brothers. To commemorate this blood compact which signified Treaty of Friendship between people of different beliefs, races, religion and tradition; this event is being celebrated annually every month of July popularly known as Sandugo Festival.

Since this site is located at the capital of Bohol, there’s no excuse not to drop by this historical spot. I suggest you visit this place! J
