Mt. Susong Dalaga (Malarayat Range)

group shot at the summit of Mt. Susong Dalaga
Fast Facts
Batangas and Laguna
Entry point: Brgy. Talisay, Lipa
Days required / Hours to summit: 1 day / 3-5 hours
Projected Specs: Minor climb, Difficulty 4/9, Trail class 2-3

BACKGROUND
There is no “solid” article written about Mt. Susong Dalaga aside from it is part of Malarayat Range. And I do not think I can be reliable on figures and facts about this said mountain. There is confusion about which part of Malarayat Range is the exact location of Mt. Susong Dalaga. Other people even say that the real Mt. Susong Dalaga is not the one in Batangas but the mountain located in Rizal. This article do not claim anything nor prove anything but rather share the experience our group had in climbing the Mt. Susong Dalaga (according to locals) of Malarayat Range in Batangas.

my favorite trail
take five at the grassy slopes trail
Mt. Susong Dalaga climb I may say is as challenging as our failed Mt. Malipunyo climb, no poison ivies but it has more steeps. Like the rest of mountains in Malarayat, Mt. Susong Dalaga is cool, forested, and luxuriant for the most part. The summit is covered with cogon grass. We have to trim some of the grasses to make way for our tents. The trek covered around 3-4 hour, passing by woodlands, slopes, rockies and forested areas. Elsewhere on the way to summit several mountains such as Mt. Maculot, Taal Lake, Mt. Kalisungan, Mt. Cristobal, and Mt. Makiling are visible.

Special Concerns
  • Last water source is the residential area before the assault.
  • There are no trees at the summit. It’s an open space covered with cogon grass.
Projected Expenses

Manila - Batangas - P130.00 x 2 = P260.00
Trysicle - P25.00 x2 = P50.00
Guide fees - P100/head
Registration - P10.00

Total projected Expenses - P420.00

TRIVIA

There are three mountains known as  'Susong-Dalaga'; Jose Rizal called Mt. Tagapo in Talim Island as such; and another similarly-named mountain is found in Rizal. (from Pinoy Mountaineers)
